Climbing Toubkal

Our Toubkal Morocco tour offers an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains, combining trekking, culture, and amazing scenery. This particular Morocco tour begins in Marrakech, where travellers are picked up from the airport and transferred to Imlil, a key gateway for trekking in the region. Upon arrival, local Berber cooks prepare a delicious traditional meal to welcome guests before resting up for the journey ahead.

On the second day, the trek begins with a scenic 6-hour hike from Imlil to the Toukal Refuge (also known as Neltner Refuge), accompanied by mules and experienced muleteers. Although the altitude may add some challenge to the trek, the panoramic views of Morocco’s countryside make it well worth the effort. Throughout the trek, guests enjoy meals prepared by skilled Berber cooks, giving an authentic taste of local hospitality.

Day three is the highlight of the Morocco tour, with an early morning ascent to the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 meters. The climb takes between 3 to 5 hours, depending on pace, and rewards trekkers with spectacular vistas that showcase Morocco’s natural beauty. The descent back to Imlil takes longer but is easier, typically lasting around 5 to 6 hours. Upon return, a hearty meal and a restful night offer a perfect end to this challenging but rewarding day.

The final day of the Morocco tour brings travellers back to Marrakech after breakfast, ensuring timely arrival for flights and a chance to reflect on the incredible experience. This tour captures the essence of Morocco’s mountainous terrain, rich culture, and warm hospitality, making it a perfect choice for those seeking adventure and authenticity in one of North Africa’s most scenic regions.

On your final day, you will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad or hotel and our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.

Food On The Trek

Meals during our Atlas Mountain tours are cooked by the Berber guides and muleteers and the food is fresh and healthy. For example breakfast might be jam, bread and butter, cookies, fruit, juice and coffee or milk.

Lunch may be salad with tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta. Sometimes we have fish (sardines, tuna) and seasonal fruit.

Your dinner could be soup, classic Moroccan tagine, couscous, olives and may include nuts and fruit.

Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech – Imlil

We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to Imlil, one of the major trekking hubs in the High Atlas. When you arrive, your team cooks will be preparing a delicious meal for you so you can eat before you retire for the night.

Day 2 Imlil – Toukal Refuge

Today we’ll be trekking up to the Toubkal Refuge (sometimes referred to as the Neltner Refuge) with our mules and muleteers. It will be a 6 hour trek and the altitude may make it feel a little harder than it is. The trip will be worth it for the views though – the Moroccan countryside is lovely. Food will be provided by the Berber cooks.

Day 3 Toubkal Refuge – Jebel Toubkal’s summit – Imlil

Today we will be making our attempt on the summit of Mount Toubkal so get ready for an early start! To get to the 4167m peak, we will need to trek for between 3 and 5 hours. When we get to the top, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most breathtaking scenery in Morocco. The return journey will be a bit longer but easier and should take around 5 or 6 hours in total. When we get back down to Imlil, its time for a hearty meal and a good night’s rest.

Day 4 Imlil – Marrakech

After your breakfast, we will drop you off in Marrakech again, in time for your flights.
