Four days in the mountains

Embark on an amazing Morocco adventure with this exciting 4-day trek in the High Atlas Mountains. Starting from Marrakech, you’ll be picked up from your hotel or the airport and driven to the charming mountain village of Imlil, the gateway to some of Morocco’s most spectacular trekking routes. Here, you’ll settle in for your first night while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and a warm welcome dinner.

On the second day, your Morocco adventure takes you on a trek along the beautiful Mizane Valley towards the village of Aremd. This village is known for its traditional Berber farming and lively atmosphere filled with goats and cattle roaming the streets. The local community has cultivated the rugged land for generations, growing corn, potatoes, and walnuts. From Aremd, you continue to the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, a serene spot beside a small waterfall that draws pilgrims and tourists alike. The path then climbs steadily through stunning highland scenery, leading you to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,206 metres, where you will rest overnight.

Day 3 is the highlight of your Morocco adventure – the ascent of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,165 metres. The climb starts early and takes you through rocky scree fields and steep slopes. Although the altitude and terrain make the trek challenging, the panoramic views from the summit are breathtaking. From the top, you can see across the High Atlas Mountains, down to Marrakech’s plains, and even as far as the Sahara Desert on a clear day. After soaking in the scenery, you descend back to Imlil for a welcome rest.

On the final day, after a leisurely breakfast, you will return to Marrakech, where your Morocco adventure concludes. Depending on your plans, you can be dropped off at the airport or your hotel.

This Morocco adventure combines stunning landscapes, insight into our culture, and the thrill of mountain trekking, making it a good option for anyone looking to explore the authentic heart of Morocco.

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech – Imlil

You will be collected from your accommodation in Marrakech at 9 am, or from Marrakech Airport if you prefer. From there, you’ll be driven to the mountain village of Imlil and, once you arrive, enjoy a welcome dinner while taking in the stunning panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains. All food, accommodation, and transfers are included throughout the trip.

Day 2 Imlil – Toubkal Refuge

Today, we begin our trek along the Mizane Valley, first heading to the village of Aremd, then continuing to the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. Aremd is the largest village in the valley, known for its traditional terraced farms, guesthouses, and streets often busy with goats and cattle. The local Berber community has farmed these lands for generations, growing crops like corn, potatoes, and walnuts in this rugged environment.

We’ll then cross a floodplain and follow mule tracks up into the rocky cliffs above the valley. After crossing a river, we reach the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, a popular site for tourists and pilgrims. Note that only Muslims can cross the stone bridge to the shrine itself. The village sits beside a small waterfall, a charming jumble of houses blending into the landscape.

From here, the trail climbs steadily, winding up through the snowline to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,206 metres, where we’ll spend the night.

Day 3 Trek to summit of Jebel Toubkal(4165m); return to Imlil

We start early to attempt the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,165 metres. The route takes us up the south cirque, crossing a stream above the refuge, then across scree fields – a challenging stretch of loose rocks and boulders. Though the walking is mostly straightforward, the altitude and terrain will test your endurance.

Reaching the ridge, we cross a plateau to the summit, where breathtaking 360-degree views await. You can see from the plains near Marrakech to the High Atlas Mountains, and as far as the Anti-Atlas and Sahara Desert. The Roman scholar Pliny once called the High Atlas “the most fabulous mountains in all of Africa,” and it’s easy to see why from up here.

After taking in the views, we retrace our steps back down to the refuge and continue our descent to Imlil for the night.

Day 4 Return to Marrakech

After a relaxing breakfast, we leave Imlil at 10:00am to go back to Marrakech. Depending on your plans, we’ll drop you either at the airport or at your accommodation.
