This unforgettable desert tour begins in Marrakech, where we’ll pick you up from your hotel or riad, ready to start an extraordinary adventure into the Moroccan desert.

You’ll depart Marrakech and head towards Mhamid, the gateway to the vast Sahara. Here, you’ll meet your team and the camels that will carry you through this spectacular landscape. Your journey starts towards Oued Naam, a dry riverbed where you will stop for dinner. Along the way, the camels will carry you through stunning desert scenery, and you’ll enjoy a shaded lunch break. After approximately three hours of riding, you’ll reach the campsite at Oued Naam, where you’ll spend the night under a canopy of stars.

The next day takes you deeper into the desert, continuing for three hours across wide open spaces before pausing for lunch and rest. Later, you’ll travel another three hours to camp amid the stunning dunes of Lotide. As night falls, you’ll dine under the starry sky or in comfortable tents, soaking in the peaceful desert ambiance.

The day after starts with an early sunrise, a classic desert spectacle. You’ll journey onward to the Sacred Oasis, where palm trees and a year-round water source that supports nomads and their herds. After enjoying lunch and mint tea there, your trek continues to the towering dunes of Erg Chigaga; some of the dunes there reach heights of 300 meters! The day ends with dinner and traditional local entertainment at camp.

After breakfast at Erg Chigaga, you’ll ride back towards Mhamid, stopping for lunch and continuing on to the Bougarn dunes. A night by a desert fire offers a perfect moment to connect with the serene environment.

The next morning begins early with breakfast as the sun rises. You’ll continue your trek, stopping for lunch and tea, then head to Mezouaria dunes for your final night in the desert’s open air.

Day 7 sees you journeying back to Mhamid for a final lunch before transferring to Marrakech. Day 8 is a free day in Marrakech to explore at your leisure.

This desert tour offers an authentic Saharan experience, blending adventure, culture, and stunning natural beauty, making it an unforgettable journey through Morocco’s majestic desert landscapes.

Erg Chigaga is the classic sand dune sea. Located in the Sahara, it is accessed by camel and is one of the most memorable landscapes in the entire world.

How To Get There And Get Back

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech city. Lots of riads do not have car access so the driver will park nearby and come to get you.

On your final day, you will be dropped off at the nearest point to your riad or hotel and our driver can call your riad to meet you if needed.

Food On The Trek

Meals during our Atlas Mountain tours are cooked by the Berber guides and muleteers and the food is fresh and healthy. For example breakfast might be jam, bread and butter, cookies, fruit, juice and coffee or milk.

Lunch may be salad with tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta. Sometimes we have fish (sardines, tuna) and seasonal fruit.

Your dinner could be soup, classic Moroccan tagine, couscous, olives and may include nuts and fruit.

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech

Arrive and check into your hotel or riad.

Day 2 Marrakech – Mhamid – Oued Naam

Tonight, you will spend the evening under canvas and a starlit desert sky! But first, we’ll need to meet our team and fetch our camels.

When we begin our trek, we’ll head out towards Oued Nam, a dry river where we’ll stop for our dinner. On the way, our camels will take us through some wonderful desert scenery and we’ll stop for lunch somewhere in the shade.

After 3 hours of riding, we’ll eventually reach Oued Naam, where we’ll stop to eat, rest and sleep for the night.

Day 3 Oued Naam – Lotide

After your breakfast, we’ll continue on into the wide open desert. Over the next 3 hours, we’ll travel through some stunning desert. Eventually, we will stop for lunch and a rest.

After another about 3 hours ride, we will set our camp in the beautiful dunes of Lotide. We’ll have out dinner and spend the night under the starlit sky or in tents if you prefer.

Day 4 Lotide – Erg Chigaga

In the morning, we can enjoy the sunrise (the sunrise in the desert is a wonderful thing!) and then carry on with our trek into the wilderness to find the big dunes of Erg Chigaga.

When we arrive at the Sacred Oasis. In this oasis, you will find palm trees and a water source running throughout the year that is still used by nomads and for their herds. We’ll have our lunch and a cup of mint tea here before we make our way to the dunes.

After around 15 km of riding or walking (you can choose whichever you prefer) we’ll arrive at Erg Chigaga. The dunes here reach a height of 300 metres!

From our camp, you can take in the tranquility and the sunset and enjoy your dinner accompanied by local entertainment.

Day 5 Erg Chigaga – Bougarn Dunes

After your breakfast at Chigaga, we’ll make our way back to Mhamid on the camels. After about 3 hours riding or walking, we’ll take a lunch break in some shade and continue our adventure.

Eventually we will arrive at the dunes of Bougarn, where we will settle down for the night. We can also have a fire here.

Day 6 Bougarn Dunes – Mezouaria Dunes

We’ll wake up early and enjoy our breakfast (served the Moroccan way) with the sunrise.

We’ll then continue our trek and discover more of the Sahara, stopping for lunch and some mint tea.

After we’ve eaten, our camels will take us toward Mezouaria, where we will spend the night surrounded by dunes and the clean, open air.

Day 7 Mezouria Dunes – M’hamid

On the morning of the seventh day, we’ll start to ride toward our next camp, this time in M’Hamid.

When we arrive, we’ll have lunch together for one last time and then transfer back to Marrakech and your hotel or riad.

Day 8 Marrakech

Today is your last day and you can do as you please.

our favourite family trip ever ! The comfort and beauty of the desert, the incredibly camel ride, the delicious food, the history we learned from our competent and friendly leader, along with the stunning beauty of the desert. hiking around atlas and into small remote villages and relaxing weather… it was the best trip ever.
