MTB in Morocco

This Morocco tour offers an exhilarating week of mountain biking combined with cultural experiences and stunning landscapes, starting from the vibrant city of Marrakech.

On the first day, you’ll be collected from Marrakech and transferred to a comfortable riad in Imlil, nestled in the Atlas Mountains. After settling in, enjoy a hearty Berber dinner before an early night in preparation for the adventure ahead.

The morning after marks the beginning of your mountain biking journey. You’ll tackle technical single-track trails while passing through charming Berber villages including Tacheddirt, Tamgaist, and Amssakrou. The day ends in Imi Oughlad, where a delicious three-course meal awaits, prepared by local Berber chefs.

On day 3, expect a challenging climb to the top of a mountain pass, followed by a thrilling technical descent. Along the way, you’ll stop at a local shop for snacks before continuing on demanding trails. The evening offers time to relax and look get into some action photos, followed by another exquisite three-course Berber dinner.

Day 4 focuses on taking advantage of nearly 2,000 meters of altitude for an exhilarating single-track descent through Morocco’s beautiful valleys and riverbeds. The fast and flowing trails are punctuated with tight bends, keeping riders engaged. After lunch, you’ll continue exploring more amazing single-track routes.

The day after brings a tough day of mixed ascent and descent, including rocky riverbeds. The ride finishes with a smooth road leading to a rest stop and lunch. Afterwards, a short ride through more Berber villages brings you to Ait Ahmad, a scenic area perfect for exploration and overnight rest.

Day 6 is your final biking day and likely the most thrilling. It features technical trails and challenging climbs and descents, finishing with a big, long descent that will test your skills. After crossing a rickety bridge, you’ll reach the van and head to the gite at Tigmi Tamazirt, with transport available if needed.

On the last full day, after breakfast, you’ll pack up and return to Marrakech for city tours exploring souks, local restaurants, and iconic architecture. A relaxing Hammam spa visit can help soothe tired muscles if you desire one. Overnight accommodation is included.

Day 8 concludes your Morocco tour with a transfer to the airport after breakfast, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure blending mountain biking, culture, and stunning landscapes.

Detail

Throughout our tour, we will be riding some amazing trails and we will include great food, hospitality and a true Mountain Bike/biking in Morocco experience that you will never forget. Big mountains, big single-track, great food, amazing culture!

Bike, pads and tyres

Pads
These are not compulsory but are certainly recommended for biking in Morocco.

Tyres
We recommend tubeless tyres in Morocco and also the Maxxis High Roller II 2.35 or High Roller LUST 2.35. The terrain is rocky and can be quite technical.

Bike
We recommend a 140mm+ full suspension bike (All Mountain Bike). However, you can use most types of bike. All wheel sizes are welcome, from 26″ to 29″. If you bring anything other than a 26″ wheel please make sure you bring enough inner tubes and a spare tyre. The only place we can get more is in Marrakech which will take a day to get there and back. Even then, we can’t guarantee we can get what you want.

How To Get There And Get Back

We will pick you up from Marrakech city (many riads are not accessible by car, so the driver may have to park nearby to get you) and when you finish, we will drop you off at the nearest point to your hotel or riad.

NB: We aim to do one transfer from the airport to Imlil. However, we are aware that not everyone can arrive at the same time so if your arrival time is very different from the rest of the group we offer a subsidised additional transfer option to Imlil for £20.

Food On The Trek

Atlas mountain tour meals are cooked by the Berber muleteer and the food is fresh and healthy. For example breakfast might be jam, bread and butter, cookies, fruit, juice and coffee or milk.

Lunch may be salad with tomatoes, carrots, lentils, beans, rice or pasta. Sometimes we have fish (sardines, tuna) and seasonal fruit.

Your dinner could be soup, cous-cous, Moroccan tagine, olives and could include nuts and fruit.

Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

Absolutely. Just let us know about your catering preferences when you confirm your booking to ensure that any dietary requirements are met.

Please remind your guide and cook about your dietary requirements on the first day of the trek.

We look forward to seeing you here!

Departure & Return Location

Marrakech

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech – Imlil

Your tour begins when we collect you from Marrakech and transfer you directly to a comfortable riad in Imlil. After a hearty Berber dinner, we will have an early night – there’s an exciting adventure to start tomorrow.

Day 2 Imlil – Tacheddirt – Tamgaist – Amssakrou – Imi Oughlad

On your first day of mountain biking, there is some technical single-track riding to be had and lots of stunning scenery. We’ll ride through the villages of Tacheddirt, Tamgaist and Amssakrou to Imi Oughlad where we’ll spend the night. Dinner will be a three course meal served at our gite and cooked by our Berber chefs.

Day 3 Imi Oughlad to the head of the pass

Today, we will start with a solid, tough climb to get to the beginning of a good, long and technical single-track. At the bottom of this single-track there is a shop where we can get some snacks and drinks before hit the next section. This section can be quite difficult, but it is still very enjoyable and technical. After this section is done, we’ll arrive at our gite, where we’ll stay for the night. After we’ve eaten, there’ll be time for a photo session which is a great opportunity to get some action shots! In the evening, we’ll settle down to another wonderful three course meal, courtesy of the Berber chefs.

Day 4 Amizmiz

Today, we will be taking advantage of our (nearly) 2000m of altitude and enjoying some simply amazing single-track descent into Morocco’s valleys and riverbeds. The track is is fast and flowing, with plenty of tight bends to keep you on your toes! You’ll stop for lunch before taking on some more stunning single-track and enjoying some spectacular views.

Day 5 Ait Ahmad

Today is likely to be one of the toughest days of mountain biking on your adventure. There is lots of single-track ascent and descent which includes a riverbed and some very rocky sections. Eventually, you will pick up a smooth road and follow it for a short distance to get to the van and to sit down for your lunch. After lunch there’ll be a short ride through several Berber villages to Ait Ahmad where we can rest and find our gite for the night. Ait Ahmad is a great spot to explore and is situated in some lovely countryside.

Day 6 Ait Ahmad to Ijoukak – Tigmi Tamazirt

This will be your last day on the bike and quite possibly the most fun! Again, there will be lots of technical single-track and some solid ascent and descent. The final descent is big and long and includes many great sections to test your skills on. By the time you reach the rickety bridge at the end, you’ll be ready to find the van, rest and have some well-earned lunch. From there, it is only 18km to the gite at Tigmi Tamazirt. If you need us to, we can give you a lift for the final section.

Day 7 Tigmi Tamazirt – Marrakech

After breakfast, its time to pack up the bikes and head into Marrakech for the day. There’s plenty to see and do, including souks, shopping, eating in local restaurants and enjoying the architecture – maybe even a Hammam spa to help you recover from your adventure! In the evening, you can retire to a comfortable hotel (the hotel is included in the price) and catch up on some rest.

Day 8 Marrakech

Today is your last day. After breakfast, its time to head for home.
