Six days around Toubkal

This six-day Morocco tour offers a wonderful trekking adventure that takes you deep into this stunning landscape, blending natural beauty, local culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Your journey begins in the vibrant city of Marrakech, from where you travel to Imlil, a lively market town and popular gateway for mountain treks. Here, you’ll meet your mule team and start your trek into the heart of the Atlas Mountains. On the first day, you’ll hike along the valley towards Tacheddirt, crossing the Tizi n’Tamatert pass at 2,279 meters before camping beside the river near the village of Ouaneskra.

Day two’s route takes you over the challenging Tizi Likemt pass at 3,555 meters, rewarding you with breathtaking views of Toubkal National Park, before descending to camp at Azib Likemt. The third day’s trek leads you through beautiful mountainous countryside, crossing the Tizi n’Ououraine pass at 3,120 meters, and ending in the tranquil village of Amsouzert.

On day four, explore the shores of Lake Ifni, the only lake in the Toubkal region, enjoying the serene surroundings before setting up camp. The fifth day is one of the toughest as you climb steeply to the Neltner Hut (Toubkal Refuge) at 3,207 meters, your base camp for the summit attempt.

The highlight of this Morocco tour is day six: an early start to reach the summit of Jebel Toubkal, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views stretching all the way to Marrakech on a clear day. The descent back to Imlil passes charming Berber villages and the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, rounding out an epic mountain adventure.

This Morocco tour perfectly combines adventure, culture, and nature, offering a genuine taste of Morocco’s diverse beauty and heritage.

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech – Imlil – Tacheddirt

After breakfast, we’ll leave Marrakech and drive through the scenic town of Asni to reach Imlil, a bustling mountain village and popular starting point for treks. Here, you’ll meet your mule team and begin the walk towards Tacheddirt.

We’ll ascend the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2,279m), enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, then descend to the village of Ouaneskra. Tonight, we’ll set up camp beside the river for a peaceful night under the stars.

Day 2 Tacheddirt – Azib Likemt

This morning, we’ll cross the valley and begin the steady climb to the Tizi Likemt Pass at 3,555 metres.

At the top, take time to soak in the wonderful views of the High Atlas and Toubkal National Park. After a well-deserved break, we’ll descend to the remote village of Azib Likemt, where we’ll camp for the night.

Day 3 Azib Likemt – Tizi n’Ourai – Amsouzert

Today’s walk takes us through stunning alpine scenery. We’ll trek to the Tizi n’Ourai Pass (3,120m), offering sweeping mountain views along the way.

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in the traditional Berber village of Amsouzert. You’ll stay in a cosy mountain guesthouse (gîte), a perfect place to rest and recharge.

Day 4 Amsouzert – Ifni Lake

Today’s trek is gentler but incredibly scenic. We’ll make our way to Lake Ifni – the only lake in the Toubkal region – surrounded by towering peaks.

Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the lakeside before setting up camp near the water.

Day 5 Ifni Lake – Neltner Hut

This is one of the most challenging days of the trek as we prepare for the summit. You’ll climb steep mountain trails to reach the Tizi n’Ouanoums Pass at 3,664m, then continue in a zigzagging ascent to the Neltner Hut (also known as the Toubkal Refuge), where we’ll spend the night.

Day 6 Mount Toubkal Summit – Imlil

We’ll make an early start for the final push to the summit of Mount Toubkal – North Africa’s highest peak at 4,167m.

On a clear day, the views are spectacular, reaching as far as Marrakech. After soaking in the scenery, we’ll begin the long descent back to Imlil, passing the sacred site of Sidi Chamharouch and the village of Aremd, following the Mizane River down the valley.
