Eight days in the snow capped mountains of the High Atlas

Embark on an unforgettable Morocco hiking tour that combines cultural exploration, unforgettable mountain landscapes, and the challenge of summiting North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal.

Your journey begins in the famous city of Marrakech, where you’ll have time to explore its historic streets and colourful souks. From here, travel to Imlil, a peaceful mountain village nestled in the High Atlas Mountains and a popular starting point for treks. You’ll also visit the nearby village of Aroumd and stay overnight in a traditional mountain guesthouse in Achayn, surrounded by stunning alpine scenery.

On day 3, your trek begins in earnest. You’ll head through the Mizane Valley, past the sacred shrine at Sidi Chamarouch, and continue to Toubkal Base Camp at the Neltner Refuge. This is where you’ll rest and prepare for the next day’s summit attempt.

Day 4 brings the highlight of your Morocco hiking tour: the ascent of Jebel Toubkal (4,167m). The early morning climb is demanding, but the views from the summit are truly spectacular. On clear days, you can see all the way to the city of Marrakech. After taking in the panoramic vistas, you’ll return to base camp for a well-earned rest.

For those with extra energy, day 5 offers options to extend your adventure. You could climb Mount Ouanoukrim, explore other nearby peaks, or enjoy a scenic trek to Tizi n’Ouanoums Pass, which overlooks the beautiful Lac d’Ifni, the only lake in the Toubkal region.

After your mountain adventures, descend back to Imlil, where you’ll say farewell to your trekking team before returning to Marrakech. You’ll have time to relax or explore more of the city at your own pace.

This Morocco hiking tour blends high-altitude adventure with our native Moroccan culture, making it a great option for those seeking a unique and active travel experience.

Itinerary

Day 1 Marrakech

Upon arrival in Marrakech, you’ll have some free time to begin exploring the city’s vibrant streets before settling into your accommodation for the night.

Day 2 Marrakech – Imlil – Around

In the afternoon, we’ll transfer you by minibus from Marrakech to the mountain village of Imlil – gateway to the Toubkal region and a hub for trekkers. You’ll have time to explore the area, including a short visit to the picturesque village of Aroumd. Later, we’ll head to our mountain guesthouse in Achayn, where you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Day 3 Imlil – Mizane Valley – Sidi Chamarouch – Toubal Base Camp

After breakfast, we’ll begin our trek up the Mizane Valley toward Sidi Chamarouch, a unique shrine known as the home of the “King of the Jinns.” From there, we’ll continue to the Neltner Refuge (also known as the Toubkal Refuge), located at the base of Jebel Toubkal. This will be our base camp for the night.

Day 4 Jebel Toubkal Ascent

Today is summit day. We’ll set out early, between 6:00 and 7:00 am, to allow plenty of time to reach the top of North Africa’s highest peak. The ascent is challenging, with steep sections and snow depending on the season. As we near the summit, a wide pass opens up to reveal dramatic views across the Atlas Mountains. On clear days, you can even see all the way to Marrakech. After enjoying the view, we’ll descend back to the refuge for a late lunch and a well-earned rest.

Day 5 Mount Ouanoukrim (or another neighbouring peak)

Feeling strong? You may wish to climb Mount Ouanoukrim, Toubkal’s second-highest and more technical neighbour. Alternatively, choose another nearby peak or opt for a scenic walk over the Tizi n’Ouanoums Pass for views of Lac d’Ifni. Whatever your choice, we’ll return to the refuge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 6 Aremd – Marrakech

This morning, we’ll make our descent back to Imlil. After a warm meal and farewells to our team, we’ll return to Marrakech where you’ll check into your riad or hotel. The evening is yours to enjoy.

Day 7 Marrakech

Spend the day however you wish—whether discovering the bustling souks, visiting historic landmarks, or simply relaxing with a mint tea in a local café.

Day 8 Marrakech

After breakfast, it is time to head for home.
